Rockland County resident Dillon Ortiz, was killed in Orange County around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5 on Route 293 in the town of Highlands. An investigation by New York State Police found that a 2019 BMW 335i, driven by Ortiz, a  Haverstraw resident, was traveling northbound passed a dump truck on the eastern shoulder that was also traveling north, said Trooper Steven Nevel. Nevel said after passing the truck, Ortiz reentered the roadway and crossed over into the southern lane, and struck a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado on the driver's side causing the BMW to leave the roadway and roll off the eastern shoulder coming to a rest in a wooded area.

Washington County resident Matthew John Anders, of Smithsburg, was arrested and charged on an outstanding warrant on Tuesday, July 12, the Thurmont Police Department announced, after he allegedly sexually abused a 7-year-old girl. The Thurmont Police Department was alerted to an alleged sexual offense that happened on Golf Course Lane on Saturday, June 18, after the child advised officials that she was assaulted while being examined at Frederick Health Hospital.

The death of Rivas, of Catlet, is being investigated as a suicide, police in Prince William County said, noting he was walking on train tracks near Gardner Manor Place and Hillcrest Farm Lane in Gainesville on Monday, Oct. 9, when he was struck. The train engineer sounded the train horn to warn Rivas, who continued to walk within the tracks before being struck by the train, police said. Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene where Rivas was pronounced dead.
