Chopt, a chain known for build-your-own salads, will open a new location in Mamaroneck at 1043 West Boston Post Rd. and begin normal business hours on Wednesday, Sept. 20.  Additionally, the eatery will hold a special grand opening event on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  The new restaurant will offer customizable salads, warm bowls, and grilled wraps, in addition to special Fall-themed menu items such as Tahini Crunch Caesar Salads and Ultimate Hummus Harissa Warm Bowls, which will be available for a limited time.

Emergency crews in Patchogue were called at around 5 a.m. Thursday, June 15, with reports that a car had driven off Mascot Dock and into Patchogue Bay near South Ocean Avenue. Surveillance footage released by police shows a Nissan sedan driving on the roadway before making a sharp turn to the left and going up onto a walkway before plunging into the water. A Suffolk County Police officer and a member of the Patchogue Fire Department sprang into action and were able to free the driver, identified as Nestor Riosarvealo, of Patchogue, according to Suffolk County Police.

The incident occurred in Orange County on Saturday evening at the Mullins Apartment complex on Walsh Road in Newburgh. According to Mike Neppl, spokesman for the city of Newburgh, two teens, ages 16 and 17 were playing with guns and shot themselves witnesses told police. The duo received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, Neppl said. Nepal declined to provide further information. According to Mark Lieb, of Rockland Video Productions, neighbors said the area is usually quiet and not prone to violence.

Southeast DC resident Robert Lavender, 44, has been identified by police as the man who was shot in the 600 block of Monroe Street NE near 7th Street NE and later died after being rushed to an area hospital. In a letter to the community, the university confirmed the shooting, noting that it is unclear whether or not the shooter or victim had any connection to the school.
